Upper Elementary Acceptable Use Policy

Upper Elementary is the first time at Mountaintop Montessori that students are given key lessons on technology skills and have computers and other electronic equipment like digital cameras available as work choices. Before your child is allowed access to the computers, they need to review this policy with you and return a signed Acceptable Use Agreement. The very first technology lessons the UE students receive will cover online safety. It may be some time before your child will be ready to search the internet. In the meantime, appropriate websites are provided on the UE Home Page wiki.

While at Mountaintop Montessori, I will use technology for educational purposes only:
  • I will only go to websites that are provided on the UE Home Page or by a guide. I understand that I am not allowed to search the internet or use google without first asking a guide's permission.
  • I am responsible for saving my work in the appropriate network folder.
  • I will not view, update or delete the work of other students.
  • I will not copy the work of other students or information I find online and pretend that I wrote it.
  • I will not share personal information such as my name, address, phone number or school online.
  • I will respect the environment and not waste paper or printer ink by printing too much. I will ask a guide first before printing.
  • I will respect the time limits placed on the computers and other electronic equipment available as a work choice.
  • I will take good care of the computers and any other electronic equipment that I use at school.
  • I will not use technology to bully or hurt other people.
  • I will not download and/or install software, change the computer's settings or change the background image of any computer at school.
  • I will not check my personal e-mail at school.
  • I will tell an adult if my computer displays inappropriate material that is obscene, threatening, or makes me feel uncomfortable.
  • I will not bring or use personal electronic devices (MP3 players, cell phones, digital cameras, laptops, etc) on campus, during afterschool or on field trips without first getting a guide's permission.
  • I understand that if I misuse technology, I will lose the privilege of using computers and other electronic equipment at school.

Notes:
  • During this time of gaining experience with technology, we encourage you NOT to send your own electronic equipment (laptops, cell phones, digital cameras, etc) to school with your child. If there is a critical, one-time need for this equipment to be on campus - please contact Kim W. prior to sending it with your child.
  • We encourage you to also have an acceptable use policy at home for computer use. You can find a good example @ SafeKids.com.
